Job Description Assistant Director of Finance Terch and Associates Consulting, on behalf of Churches United in Ministry (Chum), is seeking a nonprofit accountant to serve as the Assistant Director of Finance.
About the Organization Chum is a charity founded to provide local help to the members of our community who need it the most and is governed by 40 Duluth area faith-based congregations. Chum works to provide emergency shelter and medical attention to the unhoused, to provide food to the hungry, to address social issues through outreach and advocacy, and to provide long-term housing solutions to those affected by our housing shortage.
Chum helps over 8,000 people per year: a number equal to about 10% of the population of Duluth. Among other properties, Chum operates the Chum Drop-In Emergency Shelter, the Chum Clinic, two food shelves, the Steve O'Neil and St. Francis Apartment buildings, and has plans for large development and capital investment projects in the near future.
Outside of its properties, Chum provides street outreach to those who cannot or will not enter shelter to help them meet their basic needs, overcome barriers, and stabilize their housing to reduce the need for law enforcement intervention. Finally, Chum's advocacy is aimed at making stays in its emergency shelter short and non-reoccurring by engaging with statewide partners and lawmakers to achieve support services and permanently affordable housing for all in need.
To achieve this noble mission, Chum receives funding from its member congregations; charitable individuals in our region; foundations and other grantors; and the local, state, and federal government. Because of the wide variety of funding, and the diverse ways through which Chum supports its neighbors, it takes a consummate accounting professional to ensure it all runs smoothly.
